Notes about U.S. History:      What's the Word?

Great books for summer of 2005:  The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History. Thomas E. Woods, Jr. A counter point to most American History texts (including ours).  A History of the American People. Paul Johnson.  Confirmation of the first book mentioned uncovering with facts some of the myths inserted into American History by the revisionist.  A Patriot's History of the United States. Schweikart and Allen.  Same as above with references and atribution uncovering the myths inserted into our culture and teaching of United States History.  Hope this all helps me be a better teacher.

Read a great book this summer 2004).  The Ripples of Battles  Emphasis on United States battle in the Civil War called Shiloh and later a U.S. battle in WWII of Okinawa.  The impact of the battles then and to date. Very interesting read prior to the elections.

Grades are posted confidentially by student number in classroom and updated weekly.  Grades will be posted every Friday afternoon.
Huskies - Remember you have a quiz on Monday if the Huskies lose on the Weekend!

Oh No!  Looks like there could be a quiz every Monday during football season but hope abides in new football coach and a great basketball team and women's volleyball.  Eat your heart out you rivals! :-)

Be sure to bring a notebook with lined paper, a sharpened pencil and a pen, and something to color with to class. Be in your assigned seats before the bell rings or be counted tardy!  You will be deducted (class participation) points for every day that you do not bring your textbook and other items that you need to study in class.

Every day I will have a warm up excercise for you posted on the overhead or on the board. Enter the classroom quietly and be in your seat with sharpened pencil, trash thrown away, and begin the warm up posted when the bell rings.

How fair and lovely is the hope
which the Lord gave to the dead
when He lay down like them beside them.
Rise up and come forth and sing praise
to Him who has raised you from destruction.

Memorial Day

Honor all who have given so much

Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.

Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.

In 1915, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

For a transitory enchanted moment, man must have held a breath in the presence of this continent, compelled into an esthetic contemplation he neither understood nor desired, face to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to his capacity for wonder.  - F. SCOTT FITZGERALD

War is a terrible curse that the human race brings upon itself as it seeks to possess the earth and the earth's possessions by its own unrighteous ways. Thank those that have stood in harms way to prevent those from doing all of us unjust harm and those that  seek world domination. Thank you Father for these brave souls. In Jesus Christ Our Savior and King-In His Name we ask Amen!

"Love thinks the best of a person as the case allows. Refrain from assuming the worst in people but know there is evil and corruption potential in everyone's heart and soul."

Johnathon Edwards
